CMP was formed in 1950 by members of the Parish Church and since that time has performed many musical shows at various venues. Early performances were concerts and revues in local halls, progressing to pantomimes and light opera. Since the 1970s the society has produced at least one major Broadway or West End musical every year. Originally these were staged at Edgbarrow School, but since 1989 have been performed in the Wilde Theatre at South Hill Park. Recent productions have included Singin’ In The Rain, Oklahoma!, Pirates of Penzance, Carousel and, in May this year, Guys and Dolls. The main show for May 2012 is Hello Dolly, with read-throughs and auditions in November and rehearsals starting in January. CMP welcome new members and, especially for this show, we need more men! Please get in touch, or just drop in to any rehearsal, if you are interested in taking part.
We also produce a concert/revue each October, the 2011 show was A World of Musicals, a celebration of CMP’s 60th Anniversary featuring great songs from many of the famous shows produced by the society. As well as those mentioned above, there was also music from South Pacific, The Boyfriend, Me And My Girl, Kiss Me Kate, My Fair Lady, Calamity Jane, Fiddler On The Roof and many many more. The show took place in The Old Gym, Wellington College, from 21st to 23rd October. This year's Autumn Show, Love Is In The Air, is imminent with details here. The society meets for rehearsals at 8pm every Thursday evening in Crowthorne Parish Hall on Heath Hill Road. As well as the ‘big musical’ and our Autumn Show, we also perform a Christmas Carol Concert in either the Parish Hall or Morgan Centre. We pride ourselves on being a very friendly society and, besides the serious business of performing; we also have social events like Race Nights and an annual Quiz evening.CMP became a registered charity in December 2010. Registration number: 1139345 CMP is affiliated to the National Operatic and Dramatic Association
